The FIRE Number by Metro data study ships with a downloadable dataset

Published our first original data study: estimated FIRE targets for the 75 largest US metros from BEA 2024 price parities and Census 2024 incomes, with a full ranked table, five charts, and a CC BY 4.0 CSV download.

FinExplained’s first original data study is live. It estimates what financial independence costs in each of the 75 largest US metropolitan areas by scaling a disclosed $70,000 single-adult baseline with BEA Regional Price Parities (2024) and applying the 4 percent rule, with 3.5 and 4.7 percent variants, lean and chubby tiers, couple figures, and a FIRE-to-income multiple built on Census ACS 2024 median household incomes.

Every figure is computed by the same tested engine that runs the FIRE calculator, validated against BLS Consumer Expenditure Survey actuals with the gaps disclosed in the methodology. The full dataset is downloadable as CSV under CC BY 4.0, and the study refreshes annually when BEA releases new price parities each December.
