Companion guide links are now build-verified, and three calculators got better guides
Every calculator's companion guide link is now checked on every build: it must point to a live playbook on the same topic. The check caught three calculators linking off-topic guides (refinance, HELOC, and emergency fund), all re-pointed, and new /go/ short links carry campaign tags for social posts.
Most calculator pages offer a companion guide under “Learn how this works.” That link is chosen automatically, and publishing a new playbook could quietly re-point it at a less relevant guide. That happened on July 7: the emergency fund calculator’s link moved from its dedicated emergency fund guide to a newer net worth article that merely mentions the calculator. A new automated check now fails any site build where a companion link is broken or points at a guide from a different topic area, so this cannot recur silently.
Fixing what the check found: the emergency fund calculator points back at its dedicated guide, and the refinance and HELOC calculators, which had drifted to an Airbnb financing article, now point at the mortgage amortization explainer until dedicated guides ship. A small set of deliberate cross-topic pairings is recorded with reasons and re-verified on every build.
Two smaller changes in the same update. Short links under /go/ (for example /go/mortgage-ig) now redirect to calculator pages with campaign tags, so traffic from social platforms is attributable; the links themselves add no tracking code to the site. And the July 3 reorganization entry on this changelog stated the calculator count of that date without saying so; it now reads explicitly as history, and an automated check keeps any count phrased as current tied to the live calculator registry. The count shown on the calculators index has always been computed from the registry at build time.
